As students continue to run a social media campaign on #CancelAssamBoardExams demanding the cancellation of the examination, state Education minister Ranoj Pegu on Tuesday said that discussions are underway if the HSLC and HS examinations could be conducted in August this year.

Addressing a meeting in the presence of All Assam Students' Union (AASU) chief advisor Samujjal Bhattacharya and representatives of All Bodo Students Union (ABSU), the education minister asserted that exams will be conducted, and a final resolution on the datesheet will be decided in consultation with Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma within next ten days.

Mr.Pegu further said that a SOP related to the upcoming state board exams will be issued soon.

Meanwhile, both the students' bodies have proposed for a three subject formula for the students and urged the government to announce the date sheet public at the earliest so that students can prepare for examinations.

Earlier last week, the minister had said that the HSLC and HS examinations will be held after the Covid caseload dips below 1 per cent.

Meanwhile, the delay and suspense regarding the examinations have created mental turmoil among students, triggering them to run a Twitter campaign primarily demanding the cancellation of exams.

The exams for both HSLC under State Education Board of Assam (SEBA), while HS conducted by Assam Higher Secondary Educational Council (AHSEC) were scheduled to hold their respective examinations from May 11.

The exams were deferred due to the prevailing situation of the deadly contagion – coronavirus, however, there has been a sharp decline in the cases.
