Assam Govt spend Rs 2.40 crore to buy Deendayal books

Assam Government has spent Rs 2.40 crore to buy 4000 sets of complete works of RSS thinker and co founder of Jan Sangh Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhay for the public libraries across the state.

Each of the set consist of 15 volumes, which is in Hindi and published by a Delhi Publication House. The BJP has earmarked the amount in the last budget and accordingly the State Directorate of Library purchased 4000 sets and they have been supplied to 38 sectors covering libraries under Directorate of Library, Universities, Colleges, Schools, Village Libraries as well as State Secretariats.

Assam Government made it a point that thinking of their founder must reach to every nook and corner of the state.

The move has created controversy in Assam the book publishing industry has been struggling with falling book sale and stimulus of Rs 2.4 cores could have saved the industry., which directly and indirectly give employment no less than 20,000 people and almost all writers and intellectuals of Assam.

This is noteworthy that Assam Government is already at loggerheads with the Book Publishers Association of Assam on their annual book fair. They alleged that BJP and RSS was running the agenda of Deendayal at the cost of hundreds pf books published by Assam publishers.

This move is bound to send more repercussions as Assam in te past have seen great debate over Deendayal Upadhay as there were frontal clash between the right and left wing intellectuals over the relevance of Deendayal Upadhay in Assam.
