Assam Reports Over 400 Dengue Cases from 14 Districts

The number of cases of Dengue in Assam rose to 427 with spurt in cases in Diphu, accompanied by fresh reports of infections in several districts.

Of the total cases, 400 cases alone came from the Karbi Anglong district, said the Assam National Health Mission on Tuesday (November 9). It further said between November 1 and 7, the cases were reported from the 14 districts.

Assam has recorded four dengue deaths, three of them from Karbi Anglong, while one death has been reported from Guwahati. The state health department announced an outbreak in Karbi Anglong district headquarters Diphu last week.

Despite all efforts to prevent the spread of the virus with fogging operations and destruction of breeding sources, there has been no respite in Diphu. State health department sources while quoted by TOI said that after carrying out around 100 dengue tests among the suspected cases in Diphu on Tuesday, 59 people turned positive.
The health department official said the number of hospitalised dengue patients at the Diphu Medical College Hospital came down to 25 – a declining trend for the first time in the last few days. Thirty-three dengue-infected patients were hospitalised on Monday.

“More cases are being detected as the mosquitoes have spread the dengue virus among people living within close proximity of the Diphu municipal areas. But since a massive campaign has been launched for the early detection and testing of the virus, the number of hospitalisation cases is likely to come down soon,” the official added.
