Sprint queen Hima Das has been officially named the first sports ambassador of the Assam.
The state Cabinet on Monday during a meeting held at Janata Bhawan in Dispur, approved the decision, to nominate Hima for the title, under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.
Recently winning a gold medal at the IAAF World under 20 Athletics Championships in the 400 mt at Tampere in Finland, she became the only Indian athlete to win a gold medal at a World track event.
Hima, who hails from a tiny village in Nagaon district's Dhing area was dubbed as 'Dhing Express' after she achieved the feat at the IAAF meet. She is currently undergoing special training in Ukraine. Her next target is to clinch a medal in Jakarta Asiad scheduled to be held from August 18 next.
