Amid massive influx of political leaders of other parties to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Assam wing has stated that it has ended the process. However, the state wing has not closed its doors for leaders from Bodoland.
State BJP President Ranjit Kumar Das on Wednesday said that the decision had been taken in view of the BJP's ongoing organisational elections.
Seemingly, senior BJP leaders who were integral part of building the party in Assam, now fear that their position hang by a thread as several Congress leaders, such as sitting Rajya Sabha MP Bhubaneswar Kalita, Santius Kujur and former Congress minister Gautam Roy are all now part of the saffron party.
Das informed that a total of about 17 lakh people have joined the party in the recent times and that Assam was way ahead of other states as far as the membership numbers were concerned.
