APSC Scam: Assam Govt appoints top SC lawyer

Sarbananda Sonowal led Assam Government has appointed a top notch Supreme Court advocate, Maninder Singh to fight the legal battle for them against the APSC's 41 sacked ACS-APS officials, who have filed a PIL to get their jobs back.

According to sources, there has been an agreement of Rupees Three crore, which is to be paid to the SC advocate.

The decision was taken after a meeting of the Advocate Generalsof India and Assam.

A Gauhati High Court bench headed by Justice N Koteshwar Singh has agreed to hear the plea on June 18.

The possibility that the sacked officers involved in the APSCscam may get back their jobs has jolted the Assam government. It is a failurefrom the part of the state government that they did not maintain a properprocedure in dismissing them, giving them an edge in the Court which willdecide their fate in the next few weeks.

Anembarrassed Assam Government is now scratching their head as all the 41 ACSofficers, who already got bail and out of jail, are now about to get stay orderin the dismissal order.

Notably,a complaint has been registered at the Dibrugarh Police, pertaining to thisissue, whose hearing is yet to begin.

Inthis light, the suspended officials have filed a PIL at the Gauhati High Courtrequesting them to be allowed to resume office.
