APSC Scam: Sacked officials may get back jobs

Rakesh Gupta, one of the prime accused in the infamous APSC cash-for-job scam has surrendered on Thursday.

Gupta has been absconding since the investigating team started arresting government officials who have been accused of securing their jobs by allegedly bribing then APSC chairman Rakesh Paul.

He surrendered before a special court in Guwahati. Earlier, he was appointed as DSP.

The case was registered by Dibrugarh police in October 2016, when a job aspirant lodged a complaint that Nabakanta Patir, an engineer, has offered her a government job through APSC if she pays a bribe of Rs 10 lakh. The police laid a trap and caught Patir red-handed while accepting money from Anshumita and based on Paitr's confession Rakesh Kumar Paul, the then APSC chairman, was arrested on November 4, 2016.
