In order to make residents of Guwahati and the nearby areas aware of the chronic liver diseases, its symptoms and treatment procedure, Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals today organized a Press Conference in Apollo Hospitals Guwahati.
The conference was addressed by Dr. Neelav Goyal, Senior Consultant of the group's liver transplant department. A new liver diseases and transplant OPD has been started in its Guwahati branch where Dr. Goyal will be available every month and patients will be treated with utmost care and concern.
As per World Health Organization (WHO) report, about 10 lakh people are diagnosed with liver cirrhosis every year in India and around two lakh people succumb to liver ailments annually. Out this, lives of around 25,000 people can be saved by liver transplant surgeries, buy unfortunately at present only 1,800 liver transplants happen every year in India.
Talking about the causes for liver diseases, Dr.Goyal said, "Sedentary lifestyle, intake of excess alcohol, diets with high fats and cholesterol, lack of exercise are some of the major reasons for increasing liver diseases in India.
Abdominal pain, abnormal stools, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, fever, loss of appetite, swelling of abdomen or legs, bleeding and bruising more easily, dark urine, jaundice etc. are some of the common symptoms of liver diseases.
