The Saubhagya Scheme or Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana is facing questions over the tender, selection of meter suppliers.
As per reports, the running BJP-led state government has given the contract for providing electronic meter to blacklisted companies. Earlier, the Congress government had blacklisted few companies for alleged poor quality of meters. But, this year the black listed companies have got the authorization for supplying meters.
Even, the Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd. (APDCL) has authorized six meter manufacturing companies to supply meters under the Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana –"Saubhagya". Allegedly, the authorizations were given to the companies without any tender.
The Saubhagya Scheme, is an Indian government project to provide electricity to all households. The project was announced in September 2017 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who said that the aim was to complete the electrification process by December 2018.
