AMSU’s indefinite Economic Blockade continues

The All Moran Students Union's (AMSU) indefinite economic blockage entered sixth day on Friday disabling normal life in Upper Assam after the state government refused to fulfill their demands.

In Tinsukia and Dibrugarh districts, the blockade have immobilized  trains and trucks carrying petroleum, domestic gas and other goods and commodities of daily needs for five days straight. The blockade has also affected the whole of eastern Arunachal Pradesh and people in Namsai district are bearing the brunt of the blockade.

Reportedly the prices of the essential commodities have hiked and almost all  the petrol pumps in entire Tinsukia district have gone dry since Wednesday.

It is to be mentioned that AMSU and the Moran organizations have been staging an economic blockade since January 20 to in Tinsukia , Dibrugarh for the fulfillment of their various demands including Autonomous Council for the Moran Community and Schedule cast (ST ) status.

They also demanded withdrawal of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 ,cancellation of  privatization of oil fields in Assam and seeking permanent resident certificates (PRC) for the Moran community residing in the Arunachal Pradesh.
