The AGP is going solo in the forthcoming Panchayat poll, despite being a coalition partner of the BJP-led government at Dispur. This is music to BJP's ear as the desperately wants to get rid of the AGP in the local poll.
The AGP at its central general council meeting held here on Wednesday, decided to go it alone in the Panchayat poll. The BPF, the other coalition partner of the BJP at Dispur, is to take its decision on the issue on Sunday next when the party is going to hold its executive meeting.
"It's final that we're going it alone in the Panchayat poll. Going for seat-sharing with the BJP in the Panchayat poll can't be smooth sailing now. Of late, some differences in opinion between the AGP and the BJP have cropped up. Such differences will prevent the two parties from wooing voters together for a common cause. Panchayat poll is a business of over 3,000 bodies under the Panchayati Raj institution. We don't want to take risk." Said AGP leader Kamala Kalita.
The BJP exactly want this scenario as they want to see their ground strength and a win without AGp will give them a big moral booster over the Citizenship Amendment bill push. The BJP is planning to hit hard after winning the Panchayat poll.
They also feel that a separate AGP will also divide the anti BJP goin to the Congress which will help them eventually. The BJP will also want to taste their real penetration to prepare for the Lok Sabha poll coming in next few months.
