The BJP in Assam, corned after Citizenship Act, have decided to fight it back by using Ration cards to gain back its popularity specially amidst the economically weaker class, which they think is the most important segment for them.
There are 57 lakh ration card holders in Assam and the BJP Government has decided to replace it with a new one. The new card will have photo of the Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and all the major schemes it has launched, said an official source of the State Civil Supply Department.
With a price tag of Rs 15 per card, the eventual bill will be of Rs 9 crore but initially 80,000 have been ordered with a budget of Rs 12 lakh rupees.
There is nothing new to this strategy. Former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi also played the same trick and rather before the state assembly election the Congress shad propagated that voting for them would only ensure the ration card.
This time BJP found the same strategy as their ticket to the polling booth. They are seriously concerned about the growing dissent on the resentment of the Assamese middle class towards the BJP but they think that lower lass and the non Assamese speaking people will vote for them.
At this moment, BJP's whole strategy in Assam is to play around with the weaker section of Assamese speaking people and non Assamese speaking section of the state as they are not certain about the middle class Assamese, which have ganged up against the BJP already.
