AASU to move to SC if C’ship Bill passed

All Assam Students' Union (AASU) General secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi on Tuesday said that the student organisation would move to the Supreme Court if the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 is passed at the Rajya Sabha.

As per schedule the bill was to be tabled at the Upper House by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh at 12 pm today. However, amid protest all over and massive uproar against the Citizenship Amendment Bill  2016  there are chances that the bill may not be discussed at the Rajya Sabha (RS) today. The first hour from 11 am to 12 pm is the zero hour second hour is the question hour and from 1 o'clock to 2 o'clock is the lunch hour

Ten hours have been allocated for the President's speech and debate. Reply to the President's speech by the Prime Minister is scheduled to take place place sometime around 1030 -11 o'clock if at all RS is allowed to work normally.

So there are  probabilities that the discussion on the of Amendment Bill may not take place on Tuesday and it would be passed over to Wednesday's Schedule.

It is to be mentioned that almost all the indigenous organizations of Assam are opposing the Citizenship Bill and have been staging massive protests after it has been passed at the Lok Sabha.
