AASU files complaint against Bengali body leaders

The Udalguri district unit of All Assam Students' Union (AASU) has filed a complaint against two BTC Bengali Youth Student Federation leaders Shyamal Sarkar and Sujit Sarkar. President of Udalguri district AASU unit Pranjal Patowary said the complaint was filed against the duo after their communal remarks on Sunday.

Sujit Sarkar, President, BTC Bengali Youth Student Federation, Udalguri District Committee remarked after a man committed suicide allegedly being served a 'D' voter notice that, "This is not 1983. This is 2018 and they (pro-talk ULFA leaders) must not forget this. If you have guns, the Bengali bodies have the strength, power. We are not going to sit and watch. We are ready to change the history of Assam".

He added, "If need arises, we will go and kill them (Jiten Dutta, Mrinal Hazarika and Prabal Neog) in their own houses."

Many organizationa in Udalguri district including KMSS, AJYCP condemned the incident and cautioned the leaders from making communally provocative statements.

Pankaj Asomiya, secretary, KMSS Udalguri unit said, "We condemn the harassment the bonafide Indian citizens are going through in the name of NRC and 'D' voter notice. But at the same time, we warn the Bengali bodies to stop provoking the Assamese community with their statements."

"At a time when we are working towards uniting the people of Assam, a few Bengali organisation are hell bent on dividing people in the name of community and language. The Bengali bodies threatening to beat up every Assamese is politically motivated," said Arun Sarania, district secretary, Brihattar Asomiya Yuva Mancha.
