AASU Demands 4th Unit of BVFCL

The All Assam Students' Union (AASU) has observed a 2-hour hunger strike in Namrup demanding set up of the fourth unit of Namrup Fertilizer Plant known as Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation Limited (BVFCL).

The AASU has staged the protest during the time when Commerce & Industry Ministry Chandra Mohan Patowary visited the place.

The students' body has staged protest in front of the Convoy of Minister Patowary.

It may be mentioned that there are 4500 permanent andcontractual workers in BVFCL. The first plant was set up in 1969, but it wasshut down in 1986. After that, the 2nd and 3rd units were set up in 1976 and1987 respectively, which have also expired. But credit goes to the employees ofthe industry who have managed to keep the industry run in a smooth way with anaverage production of 3.5 lakh metric tonne per year.

And to keep the plant functional in a proper way, AASUdemanded to start the 4th unit soon.
