‘AA Clause 6’ Committee preparing its route map

The third meeting of the High-Level Committee on Clause 6 of the Assam Accord was held at Assam Administrative Staff College in Khanapara on Saturday.

It is speculated that the committee may prepare a route map for its functioning so as to recommend measures for the implementation of Clause 6 of the AA. 

The Government of India has constituted a High Level Committee comprising of eminent personalities of Assam representing various walks of life to assess the appropriate level of reservation of seats in Assam Legislative Assembly and local bodies for the Assamese people and to suggest measures to protect Assamese and other indigenous language of Assam.

The Committee will recommend appropriate level of reservations in employment under the Government of Assam for the Assamese people and suggest other measures necessary to protect, preserve and promote cultural, social, linguistic identity and heritage of the Assamese people.

The panel members include Ramesh Borpatragohain, Advocate General, Assam; Niloy Dutta, Advocate General, Arunachal Pradesh; Subhash Das, IAS (retd); Pallav Bhattacharya, IPS (retd); Dr Srishtidhar Dutta, retired professor; Sumanta Chaliha, author and columnist; Dr Jaikanta Sharma, professor and columnist; Wasbir Hussain, senior journalist; Samujjal Bhattacharya, chief adviser, All Assam Students Union (AASU); Dipanka Nath, president, AASU; and Lurinjyoti Gogoi, general secretary, AASU.

Assam accord Committee on Clause 6
