The second and final phase of Assam Panchayat polls recorded an overall 72 per cent voter turnout. With 86 per cent Dhubri recorded highest polling percentage while North Salmara has recorded lowest polling percentage with 65 per cent till 5 pm.
State Election Commissioner Harendra Nath Bora said said that barring a few small incidents, polling was peaceful. Bora also said the re-polls would be conducted on December 11 at around eight polling booths in Cachar and Karimganj and at one polling booth in Nalbari district.
A total of 35 thousand 56 candidates are in the fray in this phase. 292 candidates were declared winners unopposed.
Counting of votes will be held on December 12 Wednesday. All the major political parties including the BJP, Congress, Asom Gana Parishad and AIUDF are in the fray.
