AASU to continue protest against CAB
Updated on

AASU chief advisor Samujjal Bhattacharya said that AASU and other students' organizations will continue their protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill. His remarks came after BJP general secretary Ram Madhav reiterated the commitment of the BJP to bring CAB in the parliament. Madhav has also said that BJP will implement the CAB within July. Notably, the National Register of Citizens (NRC) is also going to be published in the same month.

AASU, which led the anti-bill protests across the State, vowed to continue its agitation if the BJP attempt to re-introduce the bill. "We won't accept it. It's a communal bill. It is unconstitutional and violates the Assam Accord. This legislation will wreck the language, culture and identity of the indigenous people. We will continue with our protest. No one has the right to play with the future of the indigenous people," said Samujjal Bhattacharya.

He also added that BJP's decision is a total disrespect to the indigenous people of NE region. "BJP aims to snatch away the rights of indigenous people. So opposing the Bill, the students' organizations of all the seven States will stage protest, added Bhattacharya.
