The second Guwahati International Film Festival (GIFF) begins on Thursday. The festival will be inaugurated by Assam's Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal in the evening in the presence of several dignitaries.
The festival is being organised by Jyoti Chitraban in association with Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Regional Government Film and Television Institute.
108 movies from 50 countries will be screened during the week-long festival, with a special focus on ASEAN countries. A series of events will also be held on the sidelines of the festival, said Pabitra Margherita, Chairman of Jyoti Chitraban.
70 filmmakers, actors and crew members from different countries have already arrived in Guwahati to take part in the event.
The opening of the event will be marked by by screening of internationally acclaimed and twelve-time national award winner filmmaker Jahnu Barua's 'Broken Window' and the closing ceremony will be marked by Muhammet Tayfur Aydin's film 'Black Crow'.
This year, the GIFF-2018 will pay tribute to one of Assam's superstars Biju Phukan and its leading filmmaker Munin Barua by focusing on one of their works.
A Ciambra, A Family, All the Dreams in the World, Amok, Appendix, Ballad from Tibet, Barbaram Bhuban Majhi, Bilu: A Demon Within, Birds Are Singing in Kigali, Comic Sans, Cuernavaca, Daybreak, Dede, Denmark, Disappearance are some of the international films to be screened at the festival.
