15th Finance Commission to visit Meghalaya

In order to review different aspects of the Meghalaya's finance, the 15th Finance Commission will visit the state from June 3-5 prior to making its recommendations to the union government for financial devolution.

As perreports, the commission headed by its chairman N K Singh and members A N Jha,Dr. Ashok Lahiri, Dr. Anoop Singh, Professor Ramesh Chand and senior officerswill hold meetings with the Meghalaya Chief Minister and his Cabinet Ministersalong with senior officers of the Meghalaya government.

Thecommission is scheduled to meet representatives of rural local bodiesseparately, representatives of urban local bodies, representatives of trade andindustry bodies apart from representatives of political parties of the state.

The FinanceCommission will also held meetings with the women self help groups and the AquaEntrepreneurs supported by the Meghalaya State Aquaculture Mission (MSAM) andwill also inspect MNREGA works in the state and interact with members of thevillage employment councils.

Notably, theMeghalaya state government has already submitted its memorandum to the FinanceCommission. The principal accountant general (Audit) of Meghalaya has also submitteda detailed presentation to the Commission on the finances of the stategovernment which has been received by the commission.
