Jayanta Malla Baruah Calls TOI Report on Assam’s NFHS ‘Ridiculous’

BJP MLA, Jayanta Malla Baruah called the recent data on National Family Health Survey by The Times of India 'ridiculous'.

Baruah hold a press meet on Monday where he briefed about the report by the leading newspaper Times of India on the NFHS data and on the increasing population.

 Jayanta Malla Baruah said that it is very ridiculous of Times of India report to say that Muslim women's TRF has decreased in Assam. He further added that the population explosion in East Bengal has decreased.

 According to 1991-2001 polulation census report, the growth rate of Hindu population was 14.9%. In contrast, the Muslim rate declined by 29.3%.

 According to the data of 2001-2011, the growth rate of Hindus was 10.9%. Whereas, muslim population growth rate was 29.8%.

He further added that in 1971, Hindus constituted 72.51% of the total population. Whereas, Muslim's total population was 24.57% of total population.

 In 2011, the percentage of Hindus was 61.48% and that of Muslims was 34.22%.

Baruah stated that these data is as per the records of population census.

He further added that since the last five years, the population has been under control of the Muslim immigrants in Assam.

 In Mancachar, the number of population increased to 43,864. The number of people in Dalgaon increased to 43,690, 42,463 people increased in Naubaisa and 39,009 people increased in Jamunamukh.

 Moreover the number of people in Janiya increased to 38,510, in Rupahihat, it increased to 35,090 people, whereas in South Shalmara, the number increased to 31,644.

Earlier the Times of India reported that Assam has recorded the sharpest fall in fertility since 2005-2006 as per government data. This report in The Times of India came after Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma made a statement that Muslim should work on family planning to control population in the state.
