Amitabh Bachchan's Twitter account had been allegedly hacked on Monday night by Ayyildiz Tim, which claims to be a Turkish hacker group.
According to reports, the hackers replaced Bachchan's profile picture with a picture of Pakistan's Prime Minister Imran Khan. The group also changed the actor's bio as "Love Pakistan" with an emoji of the Turkish flag.
Speaking to the news agency PTI, Mumbai Police said that cyber unit has been informed and that the matter is being investigated. The cover photo of the Bollywood star's account after being hacked showed the promo picture of the group with an eagle in flight.
Subsequently the account has been restored and the profile and the cover photo deleted.
After being hacked, the first tweet, which was posted at around 11:40 PM on Monday, read, "This is an important call to the whole world! We do condemn the irrespective behaviours of Iceland republic towards Turkish footballers. We speak softly but carry a big stick and inform you about the big Cyber attack here. As Ayyildiz Tim Turkish Cyber Army". Minutes later, there was another tweet on the Muslims in India. The group also tweeted the link of its 'official' Instagram page, though unverified, writing "We are waiting for your support."
