Three days after 49 eminent personalities wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressing concern over incidents of lynching and the alleged weaponisation of the slogan "Jai Shri Ram", around 62 celebrities including actress Kangana Ranaut, lyricist CBFC chief Prasoon Joshi, filmmakers Madhur Bhandarkar and Vivek Agnihotri, responded on Friday with an open letter against the 'selective outrage' and 'false narrative'.
In the letter, they stated thatsome people express anger against the government in a select manner. Thepurpose of the protest is to defame democratic values only. "The lynching ofMuslims, Dalits and other minorities must be stopped immediately," the lettersaid.
In the letter, they alsoquestioned the selective outrage and false narratives and a "clear politicalbias". They also asked why do the celebrities remain silent when tribals andmarginalized are targeted by Maoists.
"PM has spoken out against (lynching)repeatedly and respective state governments are empowered to take action,"their letter further reads.
