The Election Commission of India on Wednesday issued a warning to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma after opposition leaders Debabrata Saikia and APCC President Bhupen Kumar Borah filed complaint against him on 22nd and 23rd of October for making several announcements at various election meetings held in Bhawanipur , Thowra and Mariani.
As alleged, CM Sarma also made announcement for giving financial assistance to self help groups of tea garden workers.
The Election Commission has issued warning to Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma and cautioned him to be more careful and exercise restraint in future and strictly follow the provisions of Model Code of Conduct, while making public utterance.
Earlier, CM Sarma also wrote an apology to the Election Commission after the two complaints were filed against him by opposition party Assam Pradesh Congress Committee.
The Commission stated that it has carefully considered the matter and the documents/materials before it concerning budget announcements and ongoing schemes.
