COVID-19: Himachal Pradesh Extends Curfew till May 31

The Himachal Pradesh government has extended the ongoing 'corona curfew' in Himachal Pradesh till May 31 to break the COVID-19 chain transmission in the state. The decision to extend the restrictions was taken in a state cabinet meeting chaired by the Chief Minister on May 24.

The corona curfew was supposed to end on May 26.

The Himachal CM noted that the COVID restrictions have helped in decreasing the coronavirus infections, but the decision to extend the corona curfew was taken to further bring down the active case count.

"The meeting of state Cabinet under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur reviewed the Covid-19 situation in the State. Thus, in order to break the virus chain, the Cabinet decided to further extend the Corona Curfew in the whole State till 31st May 2021 with same restrictions," the government release said.

The Cabinet also decided that MLAs may review along with concerned SDM the welfare/ treatment being provided to Covid patients in home isolation across the state.

The COVID-19 Curfew guidelines are as follows:

  • All the government and private offices/establishments would remain closed till May 31. 
  • All essential services such as health, electricity, telecommunication, water supply, sanitation etc. would remain open.
  • The Himachal Pradesh government has permitted work at civil work sites, horticultural/agricultural and other project sites.
  • Educational institutions would remain closed till May 31.
  • All government and private transport would ply at 50 per cent of occupancy and inter-state transport would continue. 
  • Industrial establishments would work as per the guidelines issued by the state administration.

The HP government had also cancelled examinations of Class 10 Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education. All the students would be promoted to Class XII as per the norms suggested by CBSE for its students for the 10th standard examination.

Himachal Pradesh registered 1,949 new COVID-19 cases on May 24, taking the state's infection tally to 1,80,98. With 61 more persons succumbing to the deadly contagious virus, the death toll increased to 2,813.
