01. Assam Detects 2,228 New Covid Cases, 37 Deaths

Assam on Sunday reported 2,228 new cases of coronavirus, taking the active caseload to 49,518. The positivity rate of cases is 3.03 per cent today. 37 Covid-related deaths were registered, while, 4076 cured patients were recorded.

02. Two Doses Of Covishield Produce More Antibodies Than Covaxin: Study

A study of Healthcare workers (HCW) in India reported that two doses of the Covishield vaccine produce more antibodies than Covaxin doses. This study also said that there were relatively fewer instances of 'breakthrough infections' after the latter. Although the study is being peer-reviewed and has been submitted to a journal, it appears as a preprint in MedrXiv, which is an online repository.

Britain's Queen Elizabeth II and her family are "delighted" at the birth of a daughter to her grandson Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, Buckingham Palace said in a statement Sunday.

04. Covid-Infected Asiatic Lions In Chennai On Antibiotics, MK Stalin Visits Zoo

The infected Asiatic lions at the Arignar Anna Zoological Park (AAZP), popularly known as Vandalur Zoo in Chennai, have been quarantined and are on antibiotics and other prophylactic drugs. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, who visited the zoo today to take stock of the situation, directed the officials of the Environment and Forest department to provide the best treatment to the infected lions as per protocols.

07. India's Fuel Demand Plunges In May On COVID-19 Lockdowns: Report

Indian state refiners' daily petrol and diesel sales declined by about a fifth in May from a month earlier as lockdowns to curb the second deadly wave of COVID-19 hit industrial activities and consumption, preliminary data showed on Tuesday. Daily petrol sales in May fell by about 19 per cent from April while diesel consumption, which is linked to industrial activity and accounts for over two-fifths of India's fuel demand, fell by 19.9 per cent, data compiled by state refiners showed.

The North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO) on Sunday has issued an official statement regarding the flash flood issue in Assam which knocks on the door at this time every year. The NEEPCO in its press release clarified the various apprehensions in reference to the excess water released from the Ranganadi Hydroelectric Plant in Arunachal Pradesh.

09. Lockdown Extended In Sikkim Till June 14

In view of the devastating second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Sikkim government on Sunday extended the statewide lockdown for another week till June 14, an official release said. The lockdown restrictions were previously scheduled to expire on June 7.

10. India Drops Two Spots On 17 Sustainable Development Goals

India's rank has slipped by two places from last year to 117 on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the State of India's Environment Report 2021 stated. The overall SDG score of India is 61.9 out of 100. The SDGs were adopted as a part of the 2030 agenda by 193 United Nations member states in 2015. The report informed that India's rank was 115 last year and lacked in SDGs like ending hunger and achieving food security (SDG 2), achieving gender equality (SDG 5), and building resilient infrastructure, promoting inclusive and sustainable industrialisation, and fostering innovation (SDG 9).
