In a further boost to the "Make in India" initiative, the Managing Director of Maruti Suzuki Kenichi Ayukawa, who took over as the president of industry body Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), said that he will make efforts to help Japanese companies relocate from China to India.

The Japanese government is trying to cut its dependence on China. Many companies in China are also relocating their plants to other countries to hedge against the geo-political risks.

Highlighting the opportunity that this development creates for India, the MD was quoted by The Economic Times as saying, "We should bring those investments to India or tie-up with them to produce in India. I will make efforts to organize some business exploration meetings with manufacturers of Japan to increase Make in India. Similarly we could do with other countries like Europe or Korea or USA."

"If we are able to achieve this, India will become very powerful for exports also. If there are challenges, I am sure Niti Aayog and government will try to help us, as it is an important national objective also," he further said commenting on the opportunity.
