Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma landed at Silchar on Tuesday and took stock of the health condition of the Assam Police personnel injured in the violent clash along the Assam-Mizoram border on Monday.
At least six Assam Police personnel were killed while defending the "constitutional boundary" of the state with Mizoram and more than 60 people injured, including an SP, as the festering border dispute between the two northeastern states erupted into a bloody conflict on Monday, officials said.
The Chief Minister also paid tributes to the deceased police personnel. Paying tributes to the police personnel, the Chief Minister said that the incident is very unfortunate and that the Mizoram police used LMGs.
"Visited SMCH to meet injured police officials & directed doctors to ensure the best treatment to them. Asked to send seriously injured personnel for higher-level treatment by air ambulance on priority," the chief minister tweeted.
After allegations of encroachment of territory by both sides over the past few weeks and skirmishes that escalated tensions between the two states, violent clashes were reported along the inter-state border that ended in the death of at least seven Assam policemen.
"We are deeply anguished by the loss of lives of our brave @assampolice personnel. I visited Silchar SP Office and paid floral tributes to the five martyrs and salute their sacrifice," the Chief Minister said in another tweet.

The incidents came two days after Amit Shah held talks with the chief ministers of eight northeastern states and underscored the need to resolve lingering border disputes.
