Turkey’s Iconic Hagia Sophia May Be Converted Into Mosque

Turkey's iconic Hagia Sophia Museum is a world heritage. As per media reports, officials will soon decide whether to keep the monument as a museum or to revert it into a mosque.

Istanbul, once known as Constantinople, was the capital of the Byzantine Empire until the city was conquered in 1453 by the Ottomans. Upon the conquest, the monument, which was till then a cathedral, was converted into a mosque by Sultan Mehmed II. It was turned into a museum in the early 1930s under Mustafa Kemal Ataturk.
