“Will Remain Only A Doctor”: Dr Kafeel Khan

Pratidin Bureau

Dr Kafeel Khan, who was recently released from Mathura jail, has put an end to speculations about him that he will join Congress, saying that he is a doctor and would like to remain so.

According to news agency PTI, Dr Khan told them over phone that he will not be joining any political party.

Expressing his desire to visit flood-hit areas of Bihar and help the victims, he said "I am a doctor and would like to remain the same."

Dr Khan was recently released from Mathura jail after Allahabad High Court scrapped his detention under the stringent National Security Act (NSA) and ordered his immediate release. The court asserted that his speech at the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) did not promote hatred or violence, rather gave a call for national integrity.

Dr Khan mentioned that Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi helped him on humanitarian grounds and has made it clear that it should not be construed as he is going to join Congress.

Dr Khan, who is currently in Rajasthan, also said that no political discussions were done with Priyanka Gandhi.

The Congress GS offered him to go to Bharatpur as there is a Congress government and is 'safe' for him to stay there.

Dr Khan thanked her saying it was for her that he got 'security' in Rajasthan.
