Vijay Mallya is to be extradited to India, ruled the Westminster Magistrates Court in London on Monday. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) welcomed the decision. On Sunday, a joint team of the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate (ED), led by CBI Joint Director A Sai Manohar, had left for the UK for the court proceedings.
The 62-year-old is wanted in India on alleged fraud and money laundering charges amounting to an estimated 9,000 crore rupees. He has been on bail since his arrest on an extradition warrant in April last year.
The trial opened at the court in December last year and has gone through a series of hearings beyond the initial seven days earmarked for it.
