Surgical strike against Pakistan?

Pratidin Bureau

India may do a Uri type surgical strike inside Pakistan and the Home minister Rajnath Singh is rushing to Kashmir today while the Prime Minister Narendra Modi is holding a cabinet meeting to discuss Pulwama terror attack where 47 CRPF jawans were killed, the single biggest terrorist incident in years.

The Cabinet Committee on Security is also holding an urgent meeting today after a suicide bomber rammed his SUV, laden with 300 kilograms of explosives, into a CRPF bus on the Srinagar-Jammu highway in south Kashmir's Pulwama district.

More than 2,500 CRPF personnel, many of them returning from leave to rejoin duty in the Valley, were travelling in the convoy of 78 vehicles when they were ambushed at Latoomode in Awantipora in south Kashmir around 3.15 pm.

Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) claimed the responsibility for the attack. The suicide bomber was identified as Adil Ahmed Dar, native of Kakapora tehsil in Pulwama district, who officials said joined the terror group in 2018.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh meanwhile assured that the terror attack on a CRPF bus in Jammu and Kashmir, carried out by Pakistan-sponsored Jaish-e-Mohammed, will be avenged. In a statement, he said the central government is determined to foil the designs of those who want to disrupt peace through such a terror attack "sponsored and sheltered by Pakistan".

The CCS is strategizing on this matter but this time Pakistan will be ready for a surgical strike, and India is going cautious without triggering full scale war.

Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik has said that Thursday's Pulwama attack was partly the result of an intelligence failure, especially due to the fact that security forces could not detect the loading and movement of the explosive-laden Scorpio.

He admitted before media: "We cannot accept that (intelligence failure). We could not detect or check the vehicle full of explosives moving on the highway. We must accept that we are at fault also."

Meanwhile, mobile internet services have been snapped across south Kashmir and the speed has been slowed to 2G in Srinagar district.
