Sonia Gandhi, the elected Chairperson of new Congress MPs

Pratidin Bureau

At a time when Rahul Gandhi has been refusing to hold on to the presidentship the Congress party, Sonia Gandhi has been elected as the chairperson of the Congress's elected MPs.

The decision was taken by the national party's elected parliamentarians at the parliamentary committee meeting held this morning.

It has been gathered that it was former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh proposed who her name.

However, the suspense is not over as the chairperson is yet to name the person who will lead the party in parliament. Will it be her son Rahul Gandhi or another member who is not a Gandhi? Only time will tell.

The Congress is three members short of the figure that would qualify it for the post of the Leader of the Opposition.
