Sheila Dikshit Cremated with State Honour

Political leaders and well-wishers, includingleaders Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came to three-time Delhi Chief MinisterSheila Dikshit's home in South Delhi to pay homage before her funeral which wasperformed on Sunday with state honour.

Dikshit died of a cardiac arrest on Saturday at theage of 81.

Dikshit's body was taken to the Congressheadquarters in Central Delhi, from where the funeral procession went to theNigam Bodh Ghat where she was cremated.

BJP's Sushma Swaraj and LK Advani and NationalConference's Omar Abdullah were among the leaders who came to the Nizamuddinhome of the former Delhi CM and veteran Congress leader.

UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, daughter PriyankaGandhi and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh offered their last tributes toDikshit at the Congress headquarter.

Sonia Gandhi, while quoted by ANI said, "Dikshit was a great support for me. She became almost en elder sister and a friend. This is a big loss for the Congress party. I will always remember her."

Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi has offered his condolences from the US over phone to Sheila Dikshit's son.

The Delhi Government has declared a two-day statemourning for Dikshit's death, said Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi ManishSisodia in a tweet.

Condolences have poured in for the veteran Congress leader from across the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted their condolences.

"Blessed with a warm and affable personality,she made a noteworthy contribution to Delhi's development. Condolences to herfamily and supporters. Om Shanti," PM Modi tweeted.
