Sacked BSF jawan Tej Bahadur’s nomination rejected

Pratidin Bureau

The Election Commission on Wednesday rejected the nomination of ex-BSF jawan, Tej Bahadur Yadav. Tej Bahadur was supposed to contest against Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Varanasi constituency on a Samajwadi Party ticket.

Earlier,Tej Bahadur had filed his nomination as an independent candidate, but was laterannounced as a SP-BSP alliance candidate from the seat.

Thedistrict election officials said that the nomination filed by Tej Bahadur wascancelled as he did not produce the required document in time. "Anybody who hasbeen dismissed form a government service within last 5 years has to obtain acertificate from EC stating he/she hasn't been dismissed due to disloyalty orcorruption. Tej Bahadur Yadav didn't produce the certificate before 11 AM, sohis nomination was rejected," said Varanasi district magistrate.

Meanwhile, Tej Bahadur said that it was BJP's conspiracy to stop him from fighting elections. "My nomination has been rejected wrongly even though I had furnished the NOC from BSF that was required by the RO. We will go to the Supreme Court," Tej Bahadur said after cancellation of his nomination.

Notably, Tej Bahadur had posted four videos on social media in January 2017; in which he complained about unpalatable food at his camp along the Indo-Pakistan border in Jammu and Kashmir. Later, after a court-martial inquiry he was dismissed from the BSF.
