PM’s ‘Mission Shakti’ speech sparks controversy

Pratidin Bureau

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's television speech announcing successful test-firing of India's anti-satellite (ASAT) missile, Mission Shakti, and highlighting government's efforts to strengthen national security, has sparked controversy.

Opposition has alleged that PM's speech violates the model code of conduct for elections and was aimed at influencing voters.

Reportedly, acting on the allegations a panel of the Election Commission is likely to submit its report and also likely to take a decision on the report today.

The EC spokesperson taking to twitter later on Wednesday evening said that it would examine PM Modi's speech. According to reports, a transcript of the Prime Minister's speech is being examined by the panel.
