Pratidin Bureau

The union government and Stategovernments have submitted a petition before the Supreme Court seeking 'samplere-verification' of names in the complete draft NRC already published on July30, 2018.

The pleas of the Central andState governments were made following complaints received from severalorganizations that names of some people with suspected nationality wereincluded in a few districts.

Thepetitioners have sought sample re-verification on three points: 20% indistricts bordering Bangladesh as well as in districts from where there arereports of high population growth; and 10% sample re-verification in theremaining districts of the State.

Earlier, both the governments had moved the apex court for sample re-verification in thecomplete draft of the citizens' register. The Supreme Court then stated that10% re-verification of the names could be possible if required.
