K Vijay Kumar (Retd IPS:1975:TN) has been appointed as the first Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir.

K Vijay Kumar, IPS is a retired IPSofficer. He was the Chief of the Special Task Force of Tamil Nadu that wasinvolved in the death of the Veerappan during Operation Cocoon of 2004.

Previously he was chosen to head the SardarVallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy in Hyderabad and later served as DG,CRPF DG and post retirement he served as Senior Adviser to Home Ministry forthe Left Wing Extremism areas.

Presently, he is the advisor to Governor ofJ&K with Home, Forest, Ecology & Environment, Health & MedicalEducation, Youth Services & Sports, Hospitality & Protocol, CivilAviation, Estates and Information portfolios.
