J&K: Mini Bus Falls Into Gorge, 8 Killed & Several Injured

At least eight people were killed and several others were injured in an incident on Thursday when a mini bus in Jammu and Kashmir fell into a gorge. The mini bus, which was travelling from Thathri to Doda, reportedly skidded and road and rolled down into the gorge in Doda district.

Rescue operations are underway as the death toll is expected to rise, reports ANI. The mini bus reportedly broke into pieces as it fell down the mountainous slope near Sui Gowari area.

Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh said that he had spoken to DC of Doda, Vikas Sharma and informed that the injured were being shifted to GMC Doda. Any assistance required will be provided, he added.

A police official confirmed that eight people had died on the spot and many others were left injured. "The toll may increase", he said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his grief on the incident and announced an ex-gratia of 2 lakh each from PMNRF to the next of kin of those who lost their lives and 50,000 each to the injured.
