As per the direction by Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the Indian banks had issued notice their customers to upgrade their older magstripe cards to EMV chip cards by December 31, 2018.
The Debit and credit cards without the EMV chip have stopped working from January 1, 2019.
RBI has introduced EMV chip cards for digital transactions and dynamic authentication which will make the card protected.
Most of the public and private sector banks of India have upgraded their ATMs to accept EMV chip cards.
The banks are sending messages to inform their customers about this new security feature in the ATMs.
If your card does not work at ATMs ,this means the card has been permanently blocked by the bank, and they should contact their home branch for a new EMV chip card.
