India To Become World’s Most Populous Country!

According to a United Nations Report, India in the next eight years will beat China to become the most populous country of the world; whereas the Chinese population will decrease by 31.4 million or around 2.2 per cent between 2019 and 2050.

The report titled- The World Population Prospects 2019: Highlights estimated that the world's population is expected to increase by two million by 2050 from the present 7.7 billion to 9.7 billion and half of the world's population would be constituted by India along with eight other countries.

Apart from India, the other eight countries expected to show the biggest increase in population are- Nigeria, Pakistan, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Indonesia, Egypt and the USA.

The report further stated that the population of sub-SaharanAfrica is expected to practically double by 2050.

It was further reported in the report that even though globalfertility rate will slow down, yet there will be a growth in the worldpopulation.

It may be further mentioned here that average number ofbirths per woman in 1990 was 3.2 and it fell to 2.5 by 2019 and will furtherdecline to 2.2 by 2050.

"Life expectancy at birth for the world increased from 64.2 in 1990 to 72.6 years in 2019 and is expected to further increase to 77.1 years by 2050," the report added.
