Eid-ul-Fitr to be celebrated across India on Saturday

Eid-ul-Fitr, which marks the end of the holy month of Ramzan, will be celebrated across the country tomorrow. Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid Syed Ahmed Bukhari and Shahi Imam of Fatehpuri Masjid, Dr Mufti Mohammed Mukarram Ahmed said Eid will be celebrated on Saturday, as the new moon of Eid-ul-Fitr was not sighted yesterday evening.

Depending on the sighting of the crescent moon, the date and time of Eid-ul-Fitr differs across the world. Countries like Malaysia and Sinagpore are observing it today, while Australia and New Zealand will celebrate the festival on Saturday.

United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia are ringing in the festival today. The announcements were made following the sighting of the moon of Shawwal, the month following Ramzan.

Official Twitter for Haramain, which gives updates about Makkah and Madinah announced the sighting of the moon.
