EC asks Facebook to remove photos of Abhinandan uploaded by BJP MLA

Pratidin Bureau

Keeping a keen eye over social media pertaining to the upcoming elections, the Election Commission (EC) has urged Social media giant Facebook to remove posters uploaded by BJP MLA, O P Sharma, which contained a photo of IAF Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman.

According to reports, EC had received a complaint through cVIGIL mobile application which led to the action taken.

It may be noted that the Commission had earlier asked political parties to refrain from using photos of any defence personnel for political benefit.

With the announcement of the Lok Sabha schedule, the Model Code of Conduct came into effect warning various political parties to be alert  of their publicity and propaganda actions. The model code of conduct also prevents the government from announcing any policy move that may impact voters' decision.
