CJI clean chit: Protest outside SC, Sec 144 imposed

With Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi getting a clean chit in the sexual harassment case against him, many women activists and group of lawyers stage protest, against the decision, outside the Supreme Court On Tuesday.

Pertaining to the massive protest, Section 144 has been imposed outside SC and women protestors were detained by the police from the protest site and taken to the Mandir Marg police station in a police van.

According to the Delhi police, the activists were detained because they refused to move the protest to Jantar Mantar, which is the designated site for protests.

On Monday, the three-judge in-house Supreme Court inquiry panel dismissed the complaint against CJI Gogoi. The panel was headed by Justice SA Bobde. Reportedly, the inquiry panel found no substance in the allegations contained in the complaint of the former employee of the Supreme Court. However, the panel said that its report constituted as a part of the in-House procedure and is not liable to be made public.

On the other hand, the complainant, who had opted out of the inquiry on 30 April after participating for three days, issued a press statement after
the release of findings of the committee, saying that she was "highly disappointed and dejected"
