Cabinet Approves 5% Hike in Dearness Allowance

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Union Cabinet hasapproved a 5% hike in Dearness Allowance to Central Government employees andDearness Relief (DR) to pensioners with effect from July 2019 to compensate forprice rise.

This increase is in accordance with the acceptedformula which is based on the recommendations of the 7th Central PayCommission (CPC).

This will benefit over 48 lakh central governmentemployees and 62 lakh pensioners. This is a Diwali gift to employees, saidUnion Minister Prakash Javadekar. The nation will celebrate the festival oflight on October 27.

The Cabinet has taken another important decision by okaying a payout of Rs. 5.5lakhs each for 5300 displaced families who had settled in regions other than Jammu and Kashmir but later came to the then state. The union minister called this move a historical wrong is corrected.

Javadekar also announced a relaxation till November30, 2019 for the mandatory requirement of Aadhaar seeding for release of benefitsunder Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi after August 1, 2019.

The minister said that the date has been extended tohelp farmers ahead of winter sowing adding that over 7crore farmers havealready benefited under the PM-Kisan scheme under which Rs. 6000 is beingprovided to each farmer in three equal installments.
