After ECI trends revealed that the BJP would be unable to form a government at the centre on its own, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi's resignation, claiming that he had lost credibility after promising to cross 400 seats but failing to do so.
"The Prime Minister has lost credibility, he should resign immediately because he had said that this time they would cross 400 seats. I had said that there is a doubt that the BJP would cross even 200 seats. Now they have to hold the feet of Janata Dal (United) chief Nitish Kumar and Chandrababu Naidu-led TDP," said the Mamata Banerjee.
As counting for the Lok Sabha elections 2024 concluded on Tuesday, the BJP fared better in Assam, even as they faltered elsewhere. The Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma-led BJP in Assam managed to secure 9 seats out of 14.
However, the Congress did have its fair share of big wins as they emerged victorious in Jorhat, Dhubri, and Nagaon.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) secured 293 seats out of 543, while the opposition bloc, Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) secured 233 seats and others got 17 as results for the Lok Sabha general elections were declared on Tuesday.
The results went against expectations for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), whose “400 paar” claims took a massive hit. Congress and other opposition parties, who came together to form the INDI Alliance performed exceptionally as the people of the nation gave their mandate.
The BJP secured 240 seats, falling short of the magic number ‘272’ by themselves, while the Congress won 99 seats, followed by the Samajwadi Party bagged 37, Trinamool Congress won 29, and others secured 65.
With voting to elect representatives for the 18th Lok Sabha coming to an end on Saturday, it is now time for the results. Counting of votes is set to be held on June 4 (Tuesday).
