Ugratara temple to get new idol

Guwahati's famous Ugratara temple is likely to get a new idol. According managements of the temple, the idol will be brought from Kolkata. Members of the management committee will visit Kolkata on the first week of January.

"We will also visit Kolkata and see if anyone can sculpt the ashtadhatu idol of Goddess Tara," stated a member of the temple management committee.

It should be noted that, thief looted and vandalized the famous Ugratara temple and took away the main idol besides valuables  and offerings on the intervening night of November 15 and November 16.

The Ugratara Devalaya is situated in the heart of the Guwahati city, in the Uzan Bazar area. It attracts large number of pilgrims every year. The 'Navaratri' is the most celebrated holy festival in this temple every year. Traditionally the temple practices animal sacrifices to please the goddess. Ugratara is believed to the aroused, or demonic form of Sati.
