Tripura: 8-year old Girl Wins Gold in Asian Chess Championship

Arshiya Das, an eight-year-old girl from Tripura made India proud by winning a Gold medal at the Asian School Chess Championship in Uzbekistan.

Arshiyareceived gold in the 'blitz' category by scoring five points in seven rounds.Arshiya is currently the chess champion in the country in the under 9 category.

Arshiya becamethe first chess player from Tripura to participate in a rated-chess tournamentat Agartala. She won a Bronze medal in the 31st National under-7 girls' chesschampionship in 2017 at Vijayawada and is presently the under-9 chess championin India after winning at the National School Championship, 2019 at Raipur.

Arshiya is also the two times champion in the northeast chess championship-2017-2019 in the category of under-9 girls. She played thrice in the commonwealth chess championship at Delhi in the year 2017/2018/2019 and got 5th, 7th, and 7th rank respectively.

Arshiya was invited as a special guest along with Padmashri Dipa Karmakar in a program called "walkathon" organized by Apollo Hospital Tripura branch in the year 2017. Impressed with the young ones talent and dedication, Shiv Kumar, CEO, Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals decided to sponsor her coaching. He even organized a coaching camp at Chennai by Indian chess grandmaster, Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa.
