Tribal bodies call 12 hour Assam Bandh

Pratidin Bureau

The Coordination Committee of the Tribal Organisations (CCTOA) has called for a 12 hour Assam Bandh today. The bandh has been called as a protest against a bill that has been introduced to grant Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to six ethnic communities of the state.

The bandh has stirred mixed reactions across the state, with few protesting groups burning tyres to express their agitation. All Tiwa Students' Union (ATSU) also supported the bandh.

Mostly, the effect of bandh has been seen in Kokrajhar, Jagiroad, Morigaon, Orang, Routa and Majbat.
