Syama Prasad Mukherjee saved Assam from Pakistan: Ram Madhav

BJP'snational general secretary Ram Madhav on Friday said that Syama PrasadMukherjee had saved Assam from being a part of Pakistan during partition.

"Assamwas a group-C state and was supposed to be a part of East Pakistan duringpartition but Dr Mukherjee along with Gopinath Bardoloi saved it," said Madhav,while attending the 81st birth anniversary celebration of former BJP MLA lateBimolangshu Roy in Silchar.

Madhavfurther said that no genuine Bengali will be deprived even if their names donot feature in the final NRC list. He also said that it was Mukherjee, whodivided Pakistan by saving Assam. "Most persecuted Hindu Bengalis took shelterin Barak Valley and the people of Barak have followed the ideology of BJP sinceits beginning," said the BJP general secretary.

He blamedprevious governments for anomalies in the NRC. "As we are dealing with a much-delayedproject, some anomalies are natural. But our government is committed toprotecting all the genuine Indians along with persecuted Hindus who came toIndia till December 31, 2014," said Madhav.

"Wehave quashed Article 370 for the people of Jammu and Kashmir and now we wouldpass the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, soon for all of you, who had suffered alot due to partition," he added.
